CTC Coventry & CTC Rugby rides for the week beginning Sunday 11th November 2018

Notices:

  • The next Tuesday show is entitled “Denmark & Lake Konstanz” and will be presented by Paul Morton. The show will take place at The Friend Meeting House, Hill Street, Coventry on Tuesday 20th November at 2000hrs.
  • The full slide show timetable can be downloaded here.
  • There is a runs meeting next week when the rides programme will finalised for the next 3-months. Unfortunately two of our leaders have had to stand down from the half-day rides and this is causing us difficulties in maintaining the programme. The rides are clearly popular, but we must have leaders for them. There is no necessity to prepare gpx files for any of our rides, so please have a look at our planning table and type your name and a tea-stop into the chart. There is even a list of teastops on the table, although it would be even better if you know of a new destination.
  • Here is a list of the special events for next year to put in your diary:16th December Christmas Dinner at Time for Tea, Kenilworth, organiser: Dave Hearn (024 7667 0048, 079 4089 7216)

Coventry Sunday 11th November

Rides meet at the War Memorial Park by the Park & Ride facility (SP 324 774) at 0915hrs.

  1. We understand that many of you go on the short ride because of time constraints and are not able to commit the time to riding all day. However, if you would like to ride a little further than the usual short ride of 30-miles you will be very welcome to ride with the longer ride to coffee and then return to the Memorial Park. We will ensure that there is a leader for the return trip.
  2. Now that the clocks have gone back, please remember to bring lights. We try to avoid riding after dark, but it’s a good idea to have a rear light on at all times to aid visibility.
  3. A moderately paced ride of under 30-miles will be led by Dave Hearn (024 7667 0048, 079 4089 7216) to Stretton-under-Fosse, Malt Kiln Farm (SP 455 814) and back to War Memorial Park.
  4. A longer ride will be led by Bob Tinley (024 7654 2676, 077 1783 3565) to:
    • Long Itchington, Long Itch Diner (SP 418 644), for coffee after 12-miles, to
    • Lighthorne, Pavillion (SP 341 563), for lunch after 29-miles and return to
    • Coventry, Memorial Park after a total of 46-miles.

CTC Coventry & CTC Rugby rides for the week beginning Sunday 4th November 2018

Notices:

  • The Welsh Marches tour is back home from an enjoyable week’s cycling – view the photos and a brief description here.
  • The next Tuesday show is entitled “Wheels across France” and will be presented by Wal Clarke & Nick Hunnisett about their exploits cycling in France. The show will take place at The Friend Meeting House, Hill Street, Coventry on Tuesday 6th November at 2000hrs.
  • The full timetable can be downloaded here.
  • The AGM has been booked for Friday 2nd November at The Friends Meeting House, Hill Street, Coventry. Refreshments will be available from 1930hrs and the meeting will commence at 2000hrs. The essential formalities of receiving the secretary and treasurers reports and election of officers will form a very small part of the meeting, but it is a very good forum for any other matters to be discussed – for example, how we organise Sunday and Tuesday rides and Club tours. Any input will be very welcome. We will also talk about our centenary celebrations due to take place in 2021.
  • As you know, the half-day and whole-day Sunday rides have become very popular: so much so that we have been splitting the half-day ride into a shorter and a longer ride, which is very pleasing. It does mean, however, that there is increasing pressure on our small pool of leaders.
  • It would really help if new leaders would step forward. You will find that our riders are a very understanding bunch who won’t give you a hard time if the route doesn’t go exactly as planned. Please talk to any of our regular leaders if you have any concerns.
  • Please have a look at the planning spreadsheet that has separate tabs for Sunday short rides, Sunday long rides and Tuesday rides. View here and type into the spreadsheet – data is automatically saved, so it couldn’t be easier.

Vicky writes:

CTC Coventry held a Ladies Ride last Sunday as part of the Women’s Festival of Cycling being held in July this year. This ride was one of hundreds organised across the country and listed nationally.

9 women,  including seasoned club members much newer ones and a visitor, enjoyed a gorgeous ride to Hunningham and back. The coffee break was a great opportunity to talk about our cycling and what are our hopes and ambitions for the year ahead.
