Women’s Festival of Cycling 11th -31st July 2020

Hello everyone, welcome to week 1 of our festival, being celebrated in Coventry and Warwickshire, as well as across the county.

I am glad to announce that we will be holding Ladies Only Rides

each week in July. To ease ourselves out of Lockdown Marina and I have been devising and riding 30 milers, so we thought we would continue these on Wednesday mornings, as well as fitting in a Sunday Ride. Booking a place is essential as we are only able to run six a ride. But we could run more than one group. Please see the schedule for more details

We also planning two zoom meet ups one day time, the other in the evening for us to have a chat and discuss anything we want with respect to cycling, our own cycling and our place in the club, if you would like to be a part and I might not have your emails address please email me:  secretary@ctccoventry.org.uk

This time last year we were still glowing in the achievement of completing our 3 Day Ladies Tour in Northants and Leicestershire. And of course this year’s tour was cancelled. Our plans to cycle to Oxfordshire and Worcestershire are being rescheduled for September 2021.

Our Whatsapp group from that event is still live and it has been hot this week with links to snippets about women, diversity and cycling.

Usha sent a link from a Radio 4 programme on Sunday about a cycling club for Mulsim women called Cycle Sisters. You might like to watch this video  https://youtu.be/Qr1HDh9BeUg

Last week in our newslestter, Bob mentioned this report: Diversity in Cycling written by Andy Edwards and backed by British Cycling.

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/bc_files/membership/Diversity_In_Cycling_24619.pdf Whilst its focus is on the inclusion of people of BAME backgrounds in our cycling communities I think many of its recommendations apply to the inclusion of more women as well, so I recommend you take a look, see the Summary on a separate page.

I am pooling together as many names and numbers as I can, to set up a Festival Whatsapp group – just tor this month. Feel free to contribute or remove your names if this not of interest.

Please send me any comments or ideas you have for the month ahead. Good cycling this week. Look out for the rain!
